Day 50 - It’s too light

Hotels are always telling you they are trying to save the planet - help us to help the environment by not having clean towels they plead, (oh and this will save us a huge amount in laundry bills too, savings we’ll pass on to our shareholders.) But if they are serious about saving the planet and maybe making their investors richer, would it not be a better idea to cut down on the number of lights they have burning brightly? My hotel room in Warsaw had 4 bedside lamps, 4! In addition to this there was one table lamp, one standard lamp, one light over the tea and coffee making facilities and one light in the hall way. It then had two lights in the bathroom. A total of 10 bulbs, all of which were on when I entered the room, all controlled by one single switch if I wanted them to be. I didn’t need ten lights, I could have done with one, in the middle of the ceiling which of course they didn’t have. THe problem is this wilful waste of energy suggests they are not serious about saving the planet.
