‘I’ve got an idea,’ said one architect, one morning, somewhere.
‘Let’s build all airports out of glass.’
‘Great idea’ said the other architects and they set about their
mission to turn all of the world’s airports into giant greenhouses. Now greenhouses are great for growing tomatoes, they are pretty good for growing marrows
too, but they are not very good places to sit for an hour when the sun is
shining and the sky is blue. The sun
beats down, its brightness magnified by the glass and its warmth intensified
by the glass creating an climate in which cucumbers might thrive but middle
aged Welshmen flounder. So I sit here dripping with sweat, wondering how many
more buttons of my shirt I can unbutton, and contemplating if those architects
really thought it all through.
